After my last post I was hit with a bout of motivation. I guess staring at pictures of how you used to look can do that to ya. The past week and a half or so has been all about revamping my food choices and committing to some tough workouts. I've been consistent with my jogging and yoga the past few months, but haven't truly challenged myself in ages.
Luckily I got a copy of Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Training Guide (I hate this name and will refer to it as BBG for now on) and it was just what I needed to change up my workouts. I really like this style. Each workout provided either focuses on legs & cardio, arms & abs or total body. It consists of 2 circuits of 4 exercises, 7 minutes per circuit and you repeat each circuit twice. So it looks like...
Warm up
Circuit 1 (4 exercises, as many times as you can in 7 minutes)
60 second rest
Circuit 2 (4 exercises, as many times as you can in 7 minutes)
60 second rest
Circuit 1 (4 exercises, as many times as you can in 7 minutes)
60 second rest
Circuit 2 (4 exercises, as many times as you can in 7 minutes)
Stretch
With a warm up and stretching these workouts only take about 35-40 minutes.
I also went back to zumba this week and LOVED the teacher and the class. She played some of my favorite songs from college and it was just awesome from start to finish. Why have I avoided zumba for so long?? Oh yea, plantar fasciitis. I really have to keep my eye on that with all the jumping around...
Anyway, here's the workout plan for this week. My goal is to set myself up for success by planning workouts like appointments on my calendar each week. I have a rest day so I can always switch it up if something comes up last minute. Today is a rest day, which I need. My legs are sore as hell from the BBG workout I did yesterday.
Saturday: BBG total body workout
Sunday: Long walk
Monday: Yoga (hour long)
Tuesday: Zumba (hour long)
Wednesday: BBG legs & cardio <-- so hard, can barely walk today from soreness!
Thursday: Rest
Friday: BBG arms & abs
Saturday: Low intensity cardio (45 mins walk/elliptical/jog/yoga...whatever I feel like)
Sunday: BBG total body
Whenever I'm working out hard it always helps me eat healthier. Here's just a little glimpse of what I've been eating lately:

I was listening to a TED talk yesterday about how sharing your goals with others actually makes you LESS likely to achieve those goals. Apparently, when your goals are acknowledged by others, your brain is tricked into thinking you've already made progress on those goals (when in reality you have a looong way to go). And because you've felt the satisfaction from the acknowledgement, you're less likely to actually take the necessary steps toward the goals.
So with that, I'm not going to write any big goals here, but am just going to try to live as healthy of a life as I can one day at a time.
