Liz's Bachelorette in Miami!

It's Wednesday and I'm still riding the Miami high!! My sister's bachelorette weekend was such a blast. I was definitely left wondering why I spend 6 months of the year living in the miserable hell hole of New England when there are people in Miami soaking up the sun all year round...

It all started with a 4 am wake-up call on Friday morning. After a close call at the airport (they called my name over the loudspeaker, so embarrassing...), I arrived at Fort Lauderdale airport. These people are really stuck in the 90's. Check out the neon airport decor!

My cousin rented a car and picked us up at the airport. As soon as the warm air hit my face I felt so happy and relieved!! We ran a couple of errands and dropped off the car before finally heading to our hotel. We couldn't check in until 4, so we changed and moved out to the pool!

First drink and first sun since Israel
We stayed at the Savoy Hotel, which is such a gem for the area (as far as I could tell). It's way down Ocean Drive so it's quieter than many of the other hotels around. It has a huge pool area, direct access to the beach, and slightly more affordable suites.

Once we were able to check in, we went to work on decorating one of the suites to surprise Liz! I brought a giant bag from home filled with lots of fun stuff. It all worked out better than I expected!

Last fling before the ring!
Surprise from the fiancee :-)
I made these glasses and little survival kits for everyone -- which actually came in quite handy! I put into the kit: Advil, stomach meds, a KIND bar, Starbursts, gum, sunglasses, and my cousin got us each specially made tattoos and tank tops!

Had to use this emoji somehow!
The party and some bridesmaids who couldn't make it bought lingerie for the bride to be

After a few hours we hopped in cabs to eat dinner at Lure Fishbar. For some reason I was really nervous about the dinners I had planned for the trip. It's hard to plan a meal for a big group of girls you don't know well who all have different tastes and spending desires. Lure worked out amazingly -- it ended being a bit more expensive than expected but was so delicious. We shared a few appetizers (including some incredible crispy blue point oysters) and then I ordered a few sushi rolls for myself. I was in heaven.

Blurry cheers!
The most delicious shot ever
Almost the whole group!
After dinner we decided to go back to the hotel and hang out for the rest of the night. We had fun plans for Saturday and needed our beauty rest!

Saturday started with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. I was really surprised by the food at the hotel -- nearly everything we ordered exceeded expectations.

After breakfast we headed out for the day! Our first stop was Wet Willie's to get some frozen drinks!

This banana came everywhere with me

Samples!
My pretty drink!

When we finished our drinks we moved to our next stop: The Clevelander pool party! This whole day was SO fun. I'll let the photos do the talking:

Our custom tanks were a big hit!

Forcing people to play games, as usual.

I had made us dinner reservations for that night, and some responsible person (not me, probably my pregnant (!) cousin) decided it was time for us to head back to the hotel. The walk back is very blurry for me, but I know we walked along the beach because I have pictures! I also know I stopped to sit and talk to a homeless man and ended up with about 25 ant bites on my hands...

Somehow we made it back to the hotel, got showered and ready, and made it to dinner on time!

I wore my tattoo on my bicep like a huge tool
Our second dinner was amazing also! I booked it for The Local House, which was steps away from our hotel. I ordered a watermelon salad which was literally my dream come true. I wish I had taken a picture. No joke, there was an ENTIRE watermelon cut up on the plate and covered in goat cheese. That's it! It was my perfect meal.

After dinner it was time to hit the town. We made a few stops throughout the night, but the only one I can remember for sure was Mango's -- a super fun Latin style dance club.

I wish this picture wasn't blurry!
We finished off the night back at the Clevelander for some free VIP bottle service on the rooftop (getting this for our party is one of my life's proudest accomplishments HAH!).

Well we didn't actually finish at the Clevelander. Instead, we made a pit stop at the News Cafe for some late night food. I ordered a grilled cheese (typical). After spending some time hanging at the hotel pool, I finally went to bed at 6 am. 6 am!!!! Let's just say I'm still suffering the consequences of this 4 days later.

The next day was rough on everyone. Luckily most of us had late flights so after checking out we were able to lounge at the pool/beach until it was time to leave.

Sandy toes :-)
Obviously it was an awesome weekend -- such a great time with even greater people!!!

Home

On Sunday I said goodbye to my childhood home. Despite feeling okay about it for the last few months, this weekend hit me harder than expected. I know that this is a good move for my family. I know that even if the physical place is no longer mine, the memories still exist. And yet, when the time came, I found it hard to leave.

I remember my very first memory in the house. I was in kindergarten when we moved in, and that very first day I sat in the dining room at a little tiny desk (there was no other furniture set up) and ate rolled up cold cuts for lunch.

Many of the memories I have in this house -- good and bad -- have come flooding back over the past few days.

Playing "keep it up" for hours in the hallway with Rose and Laura.

Using the hallway and living room couch as my private vault for gymnastics practice.

Talking with Jonas on the driveway at 3 am.

My 8th grade birthday party where everyone jumped in my tiny pool in their clothes and the cops came.

Back when I was a jacked gymnast
The party I threw in 10th grade while my parents were away (which I still won't admit to).

Sitting on pillows and flying off the treadmill into the wall in the basement.

Hours upon hours spent in the basement trolling AOL.

The first time I felt what it was like to love and be loved by a boy.

Playing soccer in the backyard.

Swimming in the pool with my dad.

Playing Bubble Bobble with Liz in the basement.

Bringing Tami (our first cat) outside to walk in the sun on the day we put her to sleep.

Laying on my mom in the "pink room" while she rubbed my hair and talked on the phone.

Doing my homework on the floor of the dining room while my cat slept on my back.

Playing Out of Order with friends in the basement.

Playing beer pong with my dad at my graduation party.

Learning my mom was pregnant with Laura.

Planting vegetables every summer with my neighbor Bill.

I almost forgot that my old house had a different exterior! It used to be brown wood paneling.
Dancing to Come on Eileen with Nina.

Coloring easter eggs in the kitchen.

Wondering every year if I really saw Santa's boot go up the chimney on Christmas Eve.

Making Thanksgiving antipasto in the kitchen with my sisters.

Throwing my mom a surprise 40th birthday at the house.

Teaching myself to play the keyboard in the living room.

There are countless more, of course.

So what is a home anyway? Is it a place? Is it people? Is it a feeling? On the Valentines Day episode of Orange
is the New Black the girls make a video where they explain what "love" means to them. I loved Piper's answer: "Love is like coming home after a long trip." Coming home. That's a feeling like no other.

I think for me home means love, comfort, and acceptance. And home is the people who make me feel that way. New York and Boston are both my homes now. And maybe soon I will make a third home somewhere else.

Because I'm starting to get emotional, I'm going to wrap this post up with some photos of funny things I came across while going through my room:

I was obsessed with whales and wrote many...books..about them. I was always trying to convince people that orcas are friendly!
"favorite foods are pizza and burger king"
I begged for a power wheels every year and never got one. Apparently I updated this at some point and wanted awesome clothes.
Got Milk ads...LOL
If you can read what I circled here it's pretty hysterical. Taxi driver? Electrician?
Another book with the enlightening title: Can I get a Poll. AKA Pool
And finally, some photos of the house (all packed up), so I can remember it always.
