I don't understand why I'm so tired lately. I've been getting plenty of sleep, but still have so much trouble waking up in the morning. I want so badly to be a morning person!
In my tiredness of this morning I left my made lunch in my room. Ugh. When I came into work I bought a thing of mixed fruit to eat with breakfast and it cost me $5.33!! WTF!!!?? Why is that so expensive?? A whole watermelon cost me $5.50 the other day.
Anyway, I wanted to spend a minute recapping the 5K I did last week. Tom and I ran the Jim Kane Sugar Bowl 5K right on the beach in Southie and it was a very nice race! The race is in its 25th year and they had tons of sponsors and participating companies. Since it's smack in the middle of summer it's actually an evening race, which was really nice!
So how did I do? Not too bad. My goal was to beat my time from the Tory Row 5k and I did that, by about 2 minutes. Which is great! BUT, I know I didn't push myself as much as I could. For the second half of the 3 miles I found myself in a comfortable running/walking groove. If I wanted to, I know I could have ran more.
The biggest indicator for how my endurance has improved these last few weeks was how I felt during this race. From start to finish I felt 100% better all around than I did last month. I wasn't breathing as heavily, my legs weren't hurting, and I didn't want to collapse when I finished. It was nearly as hot out and yet I felt so much better. I guess I should take that as a success!
I decided to take a much needed rest day last Friday and planned to workout while I was home in NY over the weekend. I packed my workout clothes and even my 30DS DVD, but unfortunately it still didn't happen. Working out while traveling is so hard for me, I don't know why! I can be as prepared as possible and still my whole mindset changes while on vacation.
I pretty much spent my time at home eating. Really. Like I said, I feel like I become a different person as soon as I enter my house! I basically stand in the kitchen opening and closing the fridge. It's insane. Definitely something I need to take steps in changing. Here's a few photos from the trip:

Since I've gotten back I am happy to say I completed 30DS on Monday and Wednesday, and will be doing it tonight. I had plans to do it after work on Tuesday but was randomly given 4 free tickets to the Red Sox game that night. Couldn't pass those up!
Tonight is officially the 10th day of level 2, but I definitely won't be moving on soon. After a few days off it's feeling difficult to get back in the groove and I don't feel nearly as strong as I did last week. Oh well. I have friends visiting this weekend and I'm worried about when I'm going to fit working out in. It's going to be another weekend focused on eating and drinking, ugh. I love my friends and when they visit, but it definitely makes sticking to healthy habits tough.
And on a last random note, look at this weird thing growing on the fence or our garden. Any guesses as to what it is??
Oh, and re: the title, I'm listening to Paul Simon.
