Half Marathon Training Week 9

I'm going to just keep calling this Half Marathon Training despite the fact that I may not even be running it. I'm about 1 month away from the race and have had just under 3 weeks off from running. That's a lot. Anyway, here were last week's workouts:

Monday, 4/21
Rest - It was Marathon Monday! I did quite a bit of walking around the city but didn't actually make it into the gym.

Tuesday, 4/22
Total Body Strength class (60 minutes)

Another awesome circuit workout! I did kettle bell swings for the first time!

Wednesday, 4/23
Yoga: 60 minutes

Nothing special here. Right before I left work on Wednesday I tried to fix the printer and ended up pulling a muscle in my neck (it was NBD, I'm fine now). Luckily I got to yoga and we did a lot of stretches focused on the neck and upper back. My lucky day!

Thursday, 4/24
I spent about 40 minutes trying to get motivated at the gym. I started with 10 minutes on the stair stepper, then did about 15 minutes of randoms strength exercise, then about 10 minutes on the bike. Not a good workout at all, but better than doing nothing!

Friday, 4/25
Rest

Saturday, 4/26
30 minute HIIT workout on the elliptical, 20 minutes of strength, 15 minutes of foam rolling.

I liked this elliptical workout...it made the time fly by! I accidentally did 2 minutes on the harder parts instead of 1...which was a good mistake because the workout was longer. I am such a pansy with the foam roller, but it hurts so good!

Sunday, 4/27
~ 3 mile run/walk - Summit Ave hill (with Tom and Hayley!)

We had originally planned to go do the steps at Harvard Stadium but it was closed for an event. I was hesitant about running Summit Ave because I was planning to rest my foot until Wednesday, but I did it anyway. Happy to report I had very minor, momentary pain during the run and zero pain after. I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with my shoes and am going to go to Marathon Sports soon to see what they think. I'm also gonna try running in my old sneaks and see how that feels.

Summit Ave is basically a giant hill in Brookline that people enjoy running up and down? According to the November Project folks, "bottom to top distance is little under 1/2 mile (.4 miles to be exact) of steepness and pain. Gradient varies from hard (~7%-8%) to my lungs are burning (~15%-16%)." It actually wasn't as terrible as I was imagining, but was really tough. I had to walk quite a bit but was fine with that. Maybe I'll even try it again!
