80/20

Hiya, happy Wednesday! I always really like Wednesdays.

Last night after work I quickly changed and went out for a 3 mile run. It was wayyyy hotter than I realized so I made a pact with myself: run the first half faster than normal, and then walk-run the second half. I ended up holding a 10:40 pace for the first 1.5 miles and then slowed way down, taking lots of walk and water breaks. I finished 3.2 miles in about 38 minutes.

When I got home I chugged lots of water then got ready to go trivia at Stats. My team did pretty well but not well enough for a top finish. Whatevs. While there I stuck to water and diet coke and ordered grilled salmon with double veggies (subbed out the rice pilaf). It was very bland but I was still happy to have eaten something healthy while there. Eating out is always a struggle for me but I've finally found something to motivate me so the choices feel a little easier. More on that another time.

Today I started off the morning with the usual (cereal and a banana, boring) then got a great salad from Salad Works in the mall. I topped mixed baby greens with chickpeas, mandarin oranges, cucumber, feta cheese, craisins and lite raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I don't know what's with me craving these sweet salads lately! It must be the summer. I had a small whole wheat roll on the side.

I have tentative plans to go out for drinks after work, but if they fall through I'm heading to the gym for some cardio and magazine reading.

80/20
The healthiest people I know consciously choose healthy options 80% of the time and splurge/choose other options 20% of the time. Since I started getting interested in my health a few years ago I've been striving to be one of those people, but it's tough! Over the weekend I made up this list of foods that I'm going to try to choose from 80% of the time (this can be 80% of a day, 80% of week, 80% of a meal, whatever):

I chose this food based off of a number of sources. Obviously I'm not even close to perfect, but I see no harm in trying to set some guidelines as a reminder.
