Boats & Clams

Hello there! I had an awesome weekend, filled with boats and clams obviously :)

On Friday after work my roommates and I packed up the car and headed to Cape Cod for the weekend. My friend Brittney from college has a house there and what better way to celebrate her birthday than to go visit?

We showed up in Falmouth at around 8 pm and got settled. How gorgeous is her property?? I was having serious Dawson's Creek nostalgia!

It was pretty early so we decided to get ready and head right out for some drinks. We went to British Beer Company and I ordered a few different IPAs to sip on. After a few hours we ordered a bunch of appetizers off of the late night bar menu -- mozzarella sticks, buffalo chicken fingers and french fries. I forgot to take pictures!

The bar was really fun and filled with people visiting for the weekend. We made lots of friends and stayed out super late playing drinking games. I woke up the next morning with a bad cheap beer hangover...hasn't happened in a while!

In the morning we made a big breakfast then boarded Brittney's dad's boat to go to the beach. I can't remember if I've even been on a speedboat before but this was so fun! I felt like I was going to fly out the back at times.

Not sure who that ridiculous flip flop tan belongs to...
We docked right on a little beach and set up shop for the day. The weather was pretty crappy and we spent a decent amount of time sitting under the umbrellas. I was still thrilled to be out there!

We headed back to her house around 5 and got ready to go out to dinner. We took her Grandpa's car (I already can't remember what kind of car this is but I know it's from the 70's) to Seafood Sam's.

I was sooo excited to be going to a real seafood shack! I am always looking for a good one in Boston. I ordered a pound and a half of steamers with french fries and a Cape Cod Blonde ale. I looooove steamed shelllfish, and I love it plain. No butter for me!

After dinner we stopped at Smitty's for ice cream, which my friend said was a must-do for us. I got cookie dough ice cream in a sugar cone. It was pretty good but melted way too fast!! We spent the rest of the night just drinking wine, hanging out and catching up :)

The next morning we were up bright and early for a homemade pancake breakfast. It was absolutley gorgous out so we got an early start and took Brit's Uncle's boat out to Martha's Vineyard.

It was my first time being there and I loved it! Totally different than I expected. We went to the famous Nancy's snack shop for some freshly blended frozen drinks. I ordered a pina colada and shared a "dirty banana".

Both were sooo good! We chilled out for a while then walked around and went on a carousel where you had to collect rings for the opportunity to win a ride. I sucked at it.

We started getting hungry so we picked up some food (fried clam strips for me!) and got back on the boat. We took a ride back over to the same beach we went to the day before and spent the rest of the day laying out in the sun. Around 5 or so we went back to the house and had a homemad Lebanese dinner: grape leaves and cabbage leaves stuffed with a rice/meat/tomato mixture, and chicken. Everything was sooo good! While we were eating I came up with the brilliant idea to host a TV show on the food network where I go around to people's houses and cook their family's favorite dishes. We'd talk about the culture, their family history and of courses, the food. How great does that sound?? I am going to pitch it to the Food Network asap :)

After singing happy birthday and plowing through an amazing ice cream cake we hit the road back to Boston. It was pretty trafficky and we didn't get home until close to midnight. No bueno! It was an awesome weekend and I'm still feeling super relaxed from it. Sometimes it's nice to just escape the city.

After an indulgant weekend it's time to get back on the health train. I had a banana and some granola for breakfast this morning and had a white bean soup, 2 hard boiled egg whites and some grapes for lunch.

Trying to decide if I should hit up the gym or go for a run tonight. Decisions decisions!
