Half Marathon Training Week 3

Monday, 3/10
Rest

I didn't plan on this being a rest day, but I just felt terrible all around so decided to make it one. This is the first day I felt a little pain in my left knee as well.

Tuesday, 3/11
Total Body Strength class: 60 minutes

Great class. I was worried about going because I still felt some pain in my knee, but it totally went away as soon as I started working out!

Wednesday, 3/12
2 mile on treadmill: 23:30, 60 minute yoga class

I totally mistimed my arrival at the gym and got there only about 30 minutes before yoga was starting. I decided to just run as far as I could and give myself a few minutes to wipe the sweat off myself before starting yoga. I ended up completing 2 miles without knee pain. The yoga class was great again, but definitely harder to do after running. And I could not stop sweating. Thank goodness I brought a towel with me. I really need to get myself one of these.

Thursday 3/13
Spinning class: 60 minutes

After writing out the pros and cons I decided to go to spinning. I haven't been to a spin class in years at this point and I was worried. It was definitely tough but not as terrible as I thought it would be. My butt was also only a little sore the next day! I think it's a testament to all of the lunges and squats I do when I strength train. I really enjoyed the class and know I got in a fantastic workout -- I was pouring sweat and breathing heavy basically from start to finish. I really like the teacher and she had great music. The only problem was that by the end my knee started to hurt a bit.

Friday, 3/14
Arms & abs workout at home: 40 minutes (with warmup), 2 mile easy walk during work

I didn't want to make Friday a rest day but really wanted to give my knee a break, so I did a short arm and core workout at home using a few youtube videos. It was a decent workout and a nice way to start my morning. During lunch I went on a hunt to buy a headpiece to wear to my friend's bridal shower and ended up walking 2 miles.

Saturday 3/15
Rest

Sunday 3/16
St. Paddy's 5k: ~35:20 (official results not posted yet)

I'll write more about this in my weekend recap, but I was really excited about my time at this race! I felt really good and my knee didn't hurt at all! Sunday was supposed to be my long run (4.5 miles) but I decided to just give the 5k all of my effort and leave it at that.

On to week 4!
